Passion for discovery and self-perfection determine Russian violinist and composer Keyreel Raskolenko’s interest in different styles of music. The classically trained player, who taught himself to play in the Cape Breton style, has already mastered classical techniques and American bluegrass, and he is one of the best Russian performers of Celtic music (Irish, Scottish) on fiddle. The first ever Russian finalist in the All-Ireland folk music competition in Tullamore, he has also participated in Alasdair Fraser’s Fiddle Courses on the Isle of Skye in 2010 and 2012. Willing to go beyond the known, he travels as often as possible and tries to learn new styles of playing violin, his beloved instrument. His travels include a visit to Cape Breton in 2013, where he met up with members of the Fiddlers’ Association who were impressed with his technique and style. We are excited to have Keyreel perform at Celtic Colours this year.
