Tracey Dares MacNeil

Cape Breton

Tracey Dares MacNeil grew up in Marion Bridge and began playing the piano at the age of 8. She began teaching at the Gaelic College in St. Ann’s, Cape Breton as a teenager. She credits Dave MacIsaac for having a significant influence on her music while she was performing with him in Natalie MacMaster’s band. Tracey is in demand as a piano accompanist by some of the most popular fiddlers of Cape Breton music. She plays a wide range of styles and composes her own music as well. She has toured widely, traveling as far as New Zealand to perform. Together with her husband, piper Paul MacNeil, they established Castlebaymusic.com. In 1994, she released her own recording, “Crooked Lake.” She also recorded an instructional piano accompaniment video and a collaborative recording with her husband. She is the Executive Director of Strathspey Performing Arts Centre in Mabou.
