Many are sensitive and moody landscapes of Cape Breton. Carol is also well-known for her photographs of Cape Breton musicians, winning two East Coast Music Awards and a Juno Award nomination for her work in this field. Opened in 1991, the Farmer's Daughter is a family business that has grown from a small bakery and produce stand to Cape Breton's Most Unique Country Market. In 1982, Rita MacNeil purchased a renovated one-room school house which was built in 1939. She lived there for a few years and was able to enjoy the beautiful scenery for which her hometown is famous. During years of performing, Rita invited many people to drop by for tea - a well known Cape Breton tradition. Many took her up on her offer, so the idea to open a Tea Room came about. In June 1986, Rita's Tea Room and Gift Shop officially opened. Because of all the wonderful people who took the time to drop by, say hello, and have a cup of tea, the Tea Room has enjoyed pleasant success. Open seasonally, it offers warm hospitality, home-baked goodies (including very popular oat cakes), a full lunch menu (including delicious Cape Breton Seafood Chowder), and of course, a good cup of tea!
