Devilish Duos

Cape Breton Highlands Academy, Belle Côte, 7:30 PM, Tickets: $30/25, Reserved Seating

Kinnon and Betty Lou Beaton have been playing Cape Breton dances for over 35 years, having recorded six albums together in that time. Dwayne Côté and Duane Andrews released an impressive collection of tunes combining Cote's Cape Breton fiddling and Newfoundland guitarist Andrews' gypsy-jazz influenced accompaniment on their self-titled 2010 album. Fiona and Ciarán MacGillivray are best known as half of The Cottars, but they are equally impressive as a duo with their beautifully blended harmonies and command of a number of instruments. Maxim and Gervais Cormier are a relatively new duo. The father-son pair played their first show together just last year and were featured in the 2010 Celtic Colours concert Fathers Know Best. Whether at a dance, a concert, or in the kitchen, these duos can tackle the most devilishly difficult tunes, resulting in the most beautiful music.

Following the show there will be a "Coffee Hour" in the nearby Belle Cote community centre with finger foods and local entertainment. More details can be found in the Community Meals section.
