Abigail MacDonald is from St. Andrews, Antigonish County and grew up surrounded by Gaelic music and culture. Her father is a respected fiddler from a long line of musicians and tradition bearers. He passed this heritage on to Abigail, who is also a Gaelic singer, piano player, and highland and step dancer. Over the years, Abigail has been part of many community-based Gaelic programs including Na Gaisgich Òga, Féis Cape Breton, and most recently, Daltachas. During the summer months, Abigail is employed at Colaisde na Gàidhlig / the Gaelic College in St. Ann’s where she provides instruction for students and shares her knowledge on Gaelic culture with visitors. She plays regularly at ceilidhs and dances throughout the province and in the KitchenFest! music festival. This is Abigail’s first time as a featured performer at Celtic Colours where she will be joining Kenneth MacKenzie on stage.
