Còig

With the fiery Celtic high-energy style at its musical core, Còig easily shifts between century old tunes of past generations to original and upbeat compositions featuring the band’s range of over a dozen instruments (vocals, fiddles, guitars, banjo, mandolin, viola, bouzouki, whistles, and more). The combination of driving tunes, haunting songs and infectious energy makes Còig an unparalleled musical force. Their latest album, Ashlar, was released in March 2019 and followed along the award-winning and nominated path of their previous albums: Rove (2018 ECMA-winner, nominated for JUNO Award and Canadian Folk Music Award); Five (2014) which earned the group a Canadian Folk Music Award, Music Nova Scotia Award and the 2015 ECMA for Roots/Traditional Group Recording of the Year; and 2015’s Carols, already a yearly holiday favourite. With a combined total of more than 30 group and solo awards and nominations, these are well-respected players in the Celtic world and Còig’s music is a unique combination of influences that could only come from this combination of players.
