Jessie MacKay

Jessie MacKay is a musician and vocalist from Baddeck who has been playing shows locally for about seven years at venues around the area, including Colaisde na Gàidhlig / the Gaelic College, Big Spruce Brewing, and the Bell Estate. Jessie’s repertoire consists of an acoustic catalogue of folk, traditional, and rock classics stamped with her own vocal interpretations. She cites English singer, songwriter, and musician Birdy as her biggest musical influence. Jessie accompanies herself on guitar and occasionally piano. She became enamoured with guitar after watching her father play so often growing up, and she wanted to learn with the desperate urgency of a child discovering their passion without quite knowing it yet. Her father taught Jessie her first chords at age 8, and at age 19 she continues to hone her skills under the tutelage of guitar maestro Brian Doyle. Jessie enjoys collaborating with other artists and making friends with other musicians. Whether it’s getting up on a stage or sitting around a fire, she loves music because of the way it brings us closer.
