Now in its 25th season, the Cape Breton Orchestra began as a vehicle for a small ensemble to perform challenging chamber pieces. It has grown to a group of almost 30 musicians who perform orchestral works in a variety of genres—from classical to baroque and opera, to show tunes, jazz and pop. The musicians come from many walks of life. Some are music teachers and professors, there are business people, broadcasters, health care professionals, students and retirees, all sharing a love of music and community. Over the history of the orchestra they have performed at the Celtic Colours International Festival with traditional musicians such as Dougie MacLean, J.P. Cormier, Dave MacIsaac, Buddy MacMaster, and Scott Macmillan, headlined shows with the Men of the Deeps, and accompanied Rita MacNeil in a performance at a CBC presentation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. We are excited to welcome the Orchestra back this year for a very special concert with Beòlach and Heather Rankin.
