Cape Breton

Nora, Orianna, Katie Agnes and Floragael MacNeil have shown a keen interest in representing their strong Gaelic roots from a very early age. Growing up along the shores of the Bras d’Or Lakes and Mabou Harbour, parents Tracey (Dares) and Paul K. MacNeil have instilled in them a love for their native Gaelic language, dance and music and they have been surrounded by it, and playing it, their entire lives. Known as NicNeil, “Nic” meaning daughter and “Neil” being their family name, they released their first album, Back Current Jam, last year. The mix of songs and tunes on the album represents their Gaelic and English cultures, and it was nominated for a 2019 East Coast Music Award in the Gaelic Artist of the Year category.
