Nestled along the south-eastern shore of the Bras d’Or Lake lies Big Pond, a community with a rich legacy of traditional tunes, celebrated songwriters, and lively dances. This evening’s concert reflects the place of importance music holds in this area, where the local Volunteer Fire Hall doubles as a Community Centre and was built with acoustics in mind. This attention to the details of how sound works and travels through a room will be a wonderful complement to the singing of brother and sister Colin and Lili Watson and Hannah Krebs whose Gaelic song is typically presented a cappella, or unaccompanied by instruments. The instruments won’t be sitting idle all night, however. The Cape Breton duo of fiddler Douglas Cameron and his father Lawrence on piano, husband and wife Kimberley and Skip Holmes, and award-winning Prince Edward Island fiddler Richard Wood will have plenty of tunes to tap your toes to. Take your time getting to this one and don’t miss the lovely views along the shores of the Bras d’Or.
