It’s Canadian Thanksgiving and the long-awaited, first long weekend after summer is finally here—just as Cape Breton Island’s transformation into its stunning autumnal state begins. As the leaves start to change from green to vivid hues of yellow, orange, and red, friends and family gather to share gratitude and thanks. And what better way is there to celebrate and give thanks than by making a night of it and heading out with pals for some music, dancing, and maybe a drink or two, if that’s your sort of thing? One of the Festival’s few licensed concerts, the Celtic Cabaret offers a perfect opportunity to kick up your heels. With that in mind, we’ve put together an appropriate lineup for the occasion featuring high energy tunes and heartfelt, emotionally-impactful songs. Cape Bretoner Ashley MacIsaac plays fiddle with an intensity, authenticity, and passion that is hard to deny. Known for their energy and stage presence, Genticorum is one of the leading groups in Quebec’s traditional music scene. And The Gilberts blend diverse influences and delightful harmonies to come up with a new sound that is at once innovative and familiar. All in all, it sounds like the formula for a great night out on the town. 19 & over; photo ID required
