It’s no secret that some of Cape Breton’s finest dancers come from the culturally-rich and vibrant Acadian community of Chéticamp. This is where the famous southeast winds, known as les suêtes, blow strong onshore, and where dance troupe La Swing du Suête has kept their dance tradition strong for more than 25 years. For this afternoon’s concert, it’s as if les suêtes themselves have gathered folks up from Scottish, French, Métis, and Cape Breton cultures and traditions of music and dance, and brought them ashore along the Cabot Trail to join in on this annual celebration of dance. La Swing du Suête will share the stage with the Ivan Flett Memorial Dancers who performed at the Festival in 2019, Maureen Fraser, and the Pellerin Brothers. Fiddle-piano duo Douglas and Lawrence Cameron, from just down the road in Terre Noire, will provide the soundtrack for this lively matinee along with Alex Kusturok with Tim Turrett from Alberta and Richard Wood from PEI.
