The Fibre Festival celebrates handmade textiles, a tradition that has been a part of Cape Breton/Unama’ki since early days. Hosted by both the Baddeck Quilt Guild and the South Haven guild of weavers, spinners and dyers, this year’s show and sale can be found in two locations. Weavers at the BOLD centre (490 Chebucto St) and the quilters at Greenwood United Church (98 Twining St). The range of goods includes but is not exclusive to large and small quilts, scarves, blankets, shawls, straps, table linens, clothing (sweaters, hats, mittens), and art pieces. As well, there will be demonstrators at each site (weaving, spinning, quilting)
The event will happen October 8, 9 and 10 from 9-5 at each location.
The guilds will be offering three $50 workshops:
Celtic knot quilting (Sat. Oct 8th, 1-4pm with Norma M),
Introduction to tapestry (Sun. Oct 9th, 1-4pm with Jane A.),
Small project felting (Mon. Oct 10 – 1-4 with Laura M)
