Perhaps best-known these days for its world-class golf courses, Inverness—on Cape Breton Island’s west coast—has always been a natural meeting place for folks up and down the county. Located about halfway between Chéticamp and Judique on Route 19, also known as the Ceilidh Trail, the beachside town is a fitting place to meet up with friends for an afternoon of music. And that’s exactly what’s in the works for this afternoon at the beautiful St. Matthew’s United Church. The historic building will be overflowing with the sounds of strings, pipes, and song when these folks get tuned up for this opening weekend matinee. J.P. Cormier and Ray Legere are two of the most celebrated stringed-instrument players to ever come out of the Maritime provinces. Traditional, Celtic, bluegrass, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, or guitar—these guys have more than got it covered. Inverness native Kevin Dugas will be joined by Kolten MacDonell and James MacLean to round out the sound with some pipes, piano and guitar, as singer-songwriter Lisa Cameron and guitarist Vern MacDougall bring the songs. Hard to think of a better way to spend the day than settling in for this musical meeting in Inverness.
