Leon Dubinsky’s contribution to the Cape Breton songbook includes such well-known and loved songs as “Rise Again”, “Josephine”, "Barbecue", "Open Your Heart" and “Workin’ at the Woolco”. A songwriter, musician, actor, and teacher, the Sydney native was musical director of the Rise and Follies of Cape Breton Island and the Cape Breton Summertime Revue. A founding member of the popular band Buddy and the Boys in the late 1970s and early ‘80s, he received the ECMA Stompin’ Tom Award in 2002 for his contributions to the music of Cape Breton. Leon will be honoured tonight by some old pals from the Rise & Follies, the Summertime Revue, and Buddy and the Boys, along with some special guests, backed by the incomparable Cape Breton House Band featuring Fred Lavery, Allie Bennett, Brian Talbot, Stephen Muise and Wendy MacIsaac. Songs, laughter and tears are guaranteed tonight.
