It’s been three years since The Outside Track played Celtic Colours and they’re just raring to get back at it. Since we’ve seen them last, the band has released their fifth album, toured the U.K., U.S., Canada, Germany, and Switzerland, and picked up a couple more awards along the way. In the meantime, fiddler Mairi Rankin teamed up with cello player Eric Wright from The Fretless, and made a record. They debuted their duo here at Celtic Colours last year and since both of their bands are playing the Festival this year, it’s a happy coincidence to be able to have them back as a duo as well. It’s always a pleasure to welcome two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner for Traditional Recording of the Year (2015, 2018), singer Matthew Byrne. Storytelling through song is a fundamental duty of traditional music and Matthew does this brilliantly, both in his own concerts and recordings and with Newfoundland traditional band the Dardanelles. NicNeil, four sisters from Mabou Harbour, will bring their love for Gaelic language, dance and music up the coast to Belle Côte for tonight’s concert.
Prior to the concert enjoy a nearby community meal, Dine with the Mi-Carêmes in nearby Grand Étang.
