Harold Davidson is an accomplished professional musician from River Bourgeois in Richmond County on Cape Breton Island. He has been a mainstay of Nova Scotia’s music scene since first starting to play bass alongside his father, Estwood, in the 1970s. Together, they accompanied many Cape Breton fiddlers including Winston “Scotty” Fitzgerald, Buddy MacMaster, Gordon and Dwayne Côté, and Carl MacKenzie. In 1990, with Cyril MacPhee and Roger Stone, Harold co-founded the Halifax-based powerfolk group Brakin’ Tradition, and served as their bassist for the next thirty years. With Brakin’ Tradition, Harold had the opportunity to tour throughout North America, sharing the stage with such acts as The Rankin Family and The Irish Descendants. Some highlights of Harold’s career include opening for John Prine at the Clearwater Festival in Croton Point, NY, as well as playing on the Bluenose II for her 30th anniversary celebration. During this year’s Festival, Harold will be accompanying his son, Myles, as well as teaming up with former Brakin’ Tradition bandmate, Roger Stone.
