Sabra MacGillivray—an Antigonish, Nova Scotia native—is a champion Highland dancer, step dancer, award-winning choreographer, and teacher. She has performed and taught in Canada, USA, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, and Australia and has performed with her siblings all her life, as a dancer, piano player or bodhran player. She is a two-time finalist at the World Highland Dancing Championships in Scotland, was one of six dancers from Canada invited to perform as a guest soloist at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and danced as a member of the Macquarrie Dancers who performed with the musical production DRUM! Sabra had the honour of being featured in her own dance documentary, Steps with Sabra, which was produced by New Scotland Pictures. Sabra has put down roots in Creignish, Cape Breton where she runs her dance school Celtic Touch Dancers, and most recently, has released online Instructional Scottish Step Dancing and Hebridean dance video series. She graduated with a Master of Arts in Dance Performance from the University of Limerick and currently is a member of the Human Kinetics faculty at St. Francis Xavier University. She also holds BSc and BEd degrees from St. Francis Xavier, is a Registered Massage Therapist, and a Pilates Instructor.
