The Alara Vocal Ensemble is a dynamic and passionate community choir based on Cape Breton Island. Comprised of 20 dedicated vocalists from across Cape Breton, Alara brings together singers of diverse backgrounds to share in the simple yet powerful act of making music together. Formed in 2022, the ensemble has quickly established itself as a unique and vibrant voice in the local arts scene. Under the direction of Music Director Robyn Cathcart, Alara is guided by a musical philosophy rooted in joy, collaboration, and exploration. The choir’s repertoire spans a rich and eclectic blend of genres and styles—united by a spirit of connection and celebration. Over the past three years, Alara has graced some of Cape Breton’s most beloved stages. Highlights include performances at the historic Savoy Theatre, Colaisde na Gàidhlig [the Gaelic College]—in a memorable collaboration with the Vancouver Orpheus Choir—as well as a heart-felt programme for International Women’s Day. Alara’s commitment to musical excellence and community engagement continues to inspire audiences and singers alike, as they sing not just to perform—but to share, to uplift, and to connect.
