Ella Dubinsky

Cape Breton

Ella Dubinsky is a Cape Breton singer-songwriter who grew up in a house filled with music. She learned to craft songs at the piano with her father, Leon Dubinsky, and spent the last years of his life sharing in their love of songwriting. A classically trained pianist turned neuroscientist, her research on choral singing and hearing loss has been featured on NPR and CBC. Now returning fully to her musical roots, Ella is set to release her debut studio album in fall 2025. Weaving together a unique blend of genres and poignant lyrics, Ella’s songs explore love, loss, and life in rural Cape Breton. She performs regularly around the island and delights in making music with her mother, Beth MacCormick. She also directs the St. Ann’s Bay Community Choir, bringing together many beautiful voices each week. A yoga teacher and nature lover, Ella finds inspiration in the beauty of her home and can often be found making paths in the woods or walking with her husband and dog on the edge of the ocean. Ella will appear in To Everything There is a Season: A Nod to Alistair MacLeod at this year’s Celtic Colours International Festival.
