Born of Cape Breton’s deep musical traditions and raised on the rhythm of the Island, Good Crowd brings a tidal wave of sound. This great new combo—Kyle MacDonald on fiddle, James MacLean on guitar, and Jason Roach on piano—delivers a wide range of sounds in a compact trio form. The style is led by the natural Cape Breton fiddle sound rooted in Gaelic language rhythm and authenticity. Guitar tunes, violin harmonies, and dazzling piano accompany and accent Kyle’s traditionally-rooted style of playing while their arrangements bring forth the group’s versatility, sometimes breaking out of this format to establish the guitar and piano as legitimate melodic voices. Kyle, James, and Jason are all proud independent recipients of the Festival Volunteer Drive’ers Association “Big Sampie” Award, a nod to their dedication, drive, and diversity that keeps the music alive. Together, they’re not just playing tunes—they’re crafting a sound that is rooted deeply within you, dances along with you, and stays with you.
