Còisir an Eilein (The Island Chorus) was formed in the early 1980s to perform at the International Tattoo in Halifax, under the direction of Gaelic teacher Maureen MacKenzie. The group was made up of traditional Gaelic singers from throughout Inverness County. After the Tattoo, the group continued to meet to learn and share their songs, old and new. Only three singers remain from the original group, but the Còisir has continued to thrive with new members being welcomed all the time. The group meets weekly at An Drochaid Museum in Mabou under the direction of Fr. Allan MacMillan and accompanied on piano by Sandra Gillis. Còisir an Eilein continues to enjoy performing at all types of venues from nursing homes and ceilidhs to community concerts and international stages.
