Chris Babineau

A native of Chéticamp, Cape Breton Island’s largest francophone community, Chris Babineau has spent decades immersing himself in both Acadian and Scottish musical traditions. For ten years, beginning in 2010, Chris served as the primary guitarist for Ashley MacIsaac, touring occasionally and establishing himself as a versatile force in the East Coast music scene. A multi-instrumentalist who also plays bass, Chris has shared the stage with a “who’s who” of Cape Breton fiddlers including Andrea Beaton, Howie MacDonald, and Colin Grant. Among his many recording credits, he is particularly proud of his performance on the late Marc Boudreau’s 2012 album, Live at the Doryman. While he has stepped back from the rigors of full-time touring to focus on his life and projects in the Halifax region, Chris remains a deeply-respected accompanist. He continues to bring his rhythmic energy to the stage for select festivals and ceilidhs, keeping his connection to his Cape Breton roots and the traditional music community as strong as ever.
