Ewan and Maël MacNeil

Cape Breton

Ewan and Maël MacNeil are brothers who hail from Sydney, Nova Scotia. Having a father who plays the pipes and a mother who step dances, it was inevitable that their musical journeys would start at an early age. Before too long they found themselves involved in the local pipe band where they started working to hone their skills, and soon they were performing at festivals and highland games throughout the Maritimes. Now, as teenagers, they are quickly becoming tradition bearers within their community. Currently they are members of the Cape Breton Island Pipe Band where they have taken mentorship roles for some of the younger players, helping pass along what they have learned and playing a role in keeping the culture and tradition strong. They first played at Celtic Colours in 2018, and again in 2019 with the Chieftains, and in 2022 all as part of the CBU Pipe Band. The brothers also played on their own during the opening and closing concerts last year.
