Jimmy Rankin

Cape Breton

Jimmy Rankin is one of Canada’s most beloved and enduring singer-songwriters, known for his masterful storytelling and signature East Coast folk-rock sound. Born and raised in Mabou, Inverness County, he first rose to fame as a member of the multi-platinum group The Rankin Family, whose blend of Celtic, folk, and pop music helped define a generation of Canadian roots music. As a solo artist, Jimmy has released eight acclaimed albums, earning a string of hits including “Followed Her Around”, “Morning Bound Train”, and “Here in My Heart”. Together with The Rankin Family and through his solo work, he has earned five JUNO Awards, seven Canadian Country Music Awards, and an impressive 27 East Coast Music Awards. His 1994 classic “Fare Thee Well Love” was voted the #1 East Coast song of all time by CBC listeners and was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020. Whether performing solo or with a full band, Rankin’s shows are known for their authenticity, warmth, and kitchen party energy. This marks his long-anticipated debut at Celtic Colours—an artist who helped put Cape Breton music on the world stage, finally taking his place at the heart of the island’s most celebrated festival.
