Julie Fowlis

Scotland

Julie Fowlis was brought up on North Uist in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides—the last area in Scotland where Scots Gaelic is as prominent as English—and has been a proud standard bearer for Gaelic music and culture throughout her career. A warm and engaging performer, Julie’s exquisite voice, her interpretation of Scottish Gaelic culture and ability to bring folk music out of the past and into something contemporary, dynamic and irresistible have made her a genuine and multi-award-winning crossover star. Her roots may be firmly in folk music and the Scottish Gaelic culture she grew up in, but her talent and style have brought her into the mainstream, gracing stages around the world from village halls in the Highlands to Carnegie Hall in New York, The Philharmonie de Paris and The Royal Albert Hall in London. She will forever be recognized for singing the theme songs to Brave, Disney Pixar’s Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA winning animated film, set in the ancient highlands of Scotland. An artist with a genuine curiosity to explore other traditions and natural ability to cross genres, Julie is in much demand as a collaborator, recording artist and performer worldwide. This will be Julie’s first time performing at Celtic Colours since 2004 when she appeared with Dòchas.
