Rachel Davis & Darren McMullen with Zakk Cormier

Cape Breton

Since being presented the Tic Butler Memorial Award during Celtic Colours in 2007, Rachel Davis’ music career has taken off. The fiddler and singer from Baddeck, Victoria County was chosen as the 2009 recipient of the Frank “Big Sampie” Sampson award, leading to the release of her debut album that year. She released her second album, Turns, in 2013. Darren McMullen is a highly sought-after multi-instrumentalist whose list of instruments includes mandolin, bouzouki, tenor banjo, whistles, guitar and bass—but he started out on piano as a youngster. He has since released three solo albums and been busy touring and recording as a sideman with a wide range of bands including the Rankin family, Matt Andersen, David Francey and many Cape Breton fiddlers. Rachel and Darren have travelled all over North America, Europe, and Australia with, Còig releasing five albums, receiving multiple East Coast Music Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards, and a JUNO Award nomination in 2018. They have also been touring and recording as a duo since 2010 and are working on a new recording. Rachel and Darren are joined by frequent collaborator, Prince Edward Island guitarist Zak Cormier, who is a dynamic musician with deep roots in his own Franco-Celtic tradition.
