At the Cape Breton Miners Museum, experience first hand what it was like for the local coal miners and their families. Start with a virtual mine tour that travels through a century of history and the evolution of coal in this thrilling exhibit. Then, dressed in a cape and hard hat, you’ll head down into the mine. Tunnelled next to the Atlantic Ocean, this is an experience like no other, guided by a retired coal miner sharing stories about life as a miner, the industry, and the culture. Each guide has over 30 years experience underground, so you are in good, knowledgeable hands.

When back above ground, continue touring the exhibits and learning more about this side of Cape Breton culture, the men and boys who worked underground and the women who kept the coal fires burning.

[During the season, tours start at approximately 11:00/11:30am with tours ending at 4:00pm. Tour times are based on walk-in service with no set times. As long as you arrive to the museum before 4:00pm you are guaranteed an underground Mine Tour.
