Have you heard about the time the North Shore Gaelic Singers opened for Bob Dylan at the1965 Newport Folk Festival? This special concert celebrates a group of tradition-bearers who brought their songs to the world, drew song collectors to the North Shore, and made Cape Breton’s North Shore Gaelic singing world famous. Interwoven throughout the concert we will hear from the singers themselves via archival film and audio. Festival favourite Buddy MacDonald, son of Gaelic singer Tommy “Peigi” MacDonald, will be joined by fiddler Rachel Davis. Mary Jane Lamond and Stephanie Conn will share songs and stories from the North Shore; and fiddler Paul Cranford will play tunes composed or made famous by Winston Fitzgerald and Mike MacDougall. Of course—there will be a short milling frolic, too. Don’t miss out on this intimate event with limited seating in the new Theatre Baddeck venue.
