The 29th Celtic Colours International Festival opens with a concert celebrating old friends, tradition, and the connections that continue to shape our musical landscape. The Grand Opening features a powerful lineup of artists who share a long history with the festival and embody this year’s theme of milestones and memories. The Barra MacNeils have played at Celtic Colours 15 times since 1997 and never fail to bring audiences to their feet with their rich family harmonies, deep-rooted musicianship, and natural stage presence. It’s been almost 10 years since Flook graced the Celtic Colours stage with their unmatched musical brilliance. This acclaimed Anglo-Irish quartet has captivated audiences worldwide with their driving flutes, rhythmic pulse, and inventive arrangements for 30 years. It is an honour to have them back Celtic Colours to celebrate this milestone. Award-winning songwriter David Francey’s poetic genius comes through in plain-spoken storytelling and familiar melodies. David and the Barras have performed together during past festivals so it is very fitting to have them share the stage tonight. The MacArthur Dancers will add an exciting visual element to the show with their polished choreography drawn from a range of Highland dance and contemporary influences. This impressive array of songs, tunes, and dynamic dance is sure to set the tone for the nine days and nights of music and magic to come.
