Doug Lamey Trio

Cape Breton

Doug Lamey has studied, taught and performed Cape Breton fiddle for most of his life, inspired from toddlerhood by his grandfather, legendary fiddler Bill Lamey. Since then, Doug has performed at innumerable concerts and festivals throughout North America. He recorded a CD in 2009 as a member of the band Tri (“Among Friends/A-measg Chàirdean”), and upon his move to Cape Breton in 2011, Doug celebrated with a solo album, “A Step Back in Time.” Doug’s playing has a solid rhythmic beat that’s the key to the great Cape Breton-style fiddling, and his love of the music clearly shines through. Doug currently resides in Baddeck, Cape Breton with his family and in 2023 he released another solo album entitled “True North,” now available in person and online.

Sarah MacInnis is from West Mabou, Cape Breton. She was exposed to traditional Cape Breton music since her earliest days, coming by her talents naturally. Versatile and able, Sarah can be found playing piano, step dancing, and singing with her profound vocal abilities. Daughter of Trevor and Mary Elizabeth, and granddaughter to legendary fiddler Buddy MacMaster, Sarah comes from a rich Gaelic culture and has studied it, both the language and cultural history.

With deep family roots in Cape Breton traditional music, Malcolm MacNeil is steadily carving out a place in the local scene as a talented guitarist and fiddler. He began playing the fiddle at age five and picked up the guitar at thirteen, building a strong foundation in both instruments while trying his hand at others. Malcolm has shared the stage with well-known artists including The Barra MacNeils and Heather Rankin. A recent graduate of the Jazz Studies program at St. Francis Xavier University (2024), he now spends his summers working in the School Department at the Gaelic College, staying closely connected to the music and culture that inspire him.
