Some places are a little more off the beaten path than others, but all that means around here is that there are more sights to see along the way. Tonight’s concert provides the perfect excuse to take the scenic drive to D’Escousse on Cape Breton’s south coast to enjoy some Cape Breton fiddle tunes and songs sung in English and French. Ashley MacIsaac plays the fiddle with an intensity, authenticity, and passion that is hard to deny. Ashley is performing this year with guitarist Ben Tucker, bringing his exciting traditional/modern interpretations of classic Cape Breton fiddle tunes to communities around the island. Past Artist in Residence James Keelaghan is one of folk music’s most respected voices. A master storyteller with a lilting baritone voice and rhythmic guitar style, Keelaghan crafts songs that pulse with empathy, justice, and remembrance. With her repertoire of traditional and original songs, Chéticamp native Sylvia LeLièvre will feel right at home in this Acadian community. Sylvia will be accompanied on guitar by her old bandmate from legendary Chéticamp band The Phantoms, Marcel Lefort. All in all, this sounds like a pretty good D’Escousse for a party!
