Max MacDonald

Cape Breton

Max MacDonald is co-founder of the Celtic Colours International Festival, but his musical performance background goes back to 1972 when he told Leon Dubinsky he could sing and dance in order to get an acting job. Fortunately, Leon called his bluff and Max discovered a passion for music that would influence the rest of his life. A founding member of music and comedy shows The Rise and Follies of Cape Breton Island and The Cape Breton Summertime Revue, as well as influential late ‘70s-early ‘80s East Coast band Buddy and the Boys, Max has also appeared in a number of Neptune Theatre productions, and recorded on more than 20 albums, including his own solo debut, Songs of Home (2008). In 2015, Max was presented with the Stompin’ Tom Award by the East Coast Music Association in recognition of his lifetime body of musical work. Max will be lending his voice this year in tribute to celebrated Cape Breton author Alistair MacLeod.
