Tove de Fries is a fiddler and music educator with deep roots in the Danish folk music tradition. Growing up in a family shaped by generations of traditional folk music and dance, music has always been a natural part of her life. Her father Niels de Fries, who was widely known throughout Denmark for his lively and rhythmic dance playing, had a profound influence on her musical development. Over the years, she has also developed a close musical connection to Cape Breton, drawing inspiration from and collaborating with notable musicians like Jerry Holland, Marion Dewar, Allan Dewar, Andrea Beaton, and Troy MacGillivray. A multiple Danish Music Award winner, Tove is recognized for her vibrant fiddle playing, her ability to bring musicians together across nations, generations and skill levels, and her deep passion for preserving and passing on the traditional folk music culture. Now based in Sønderho on Fanø, where there is a strong tradition of music and dance, Tove, who has a Master’s degree in Music and Music Education, has helped keep folk music and dance vibrant while inspiring both young and experienced musicians and dancers.
