Mike Vass is one of the most creative forces on the Scottish music scene. As a musician, composer, producer, and arranger, Vass has amassed a body of work that encompasses early appearances as a livewire young fiddler, collaborations with many of the leading voices among today’s Scots and Gaelic tradition bearers, multi-media performances, critically acclaimed recordings, and scoring for prestigious ensembles. As an educator, Mike has held roles at the University of Edinburgh as Artist in Residence (2019–2022) in the Department of Celtic and Scottish Studies. From 2022 to 2024 he was Associate Artist at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Traditional Music Department, and he is now Head of the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton in the North West Highlands. Mike returns to Celtic Colours to perform with the Unusual Suspects of Celtic Colours as well as with Mairearad Green.
