At a young age, Marilyn MacKinnon began singing and often would accompany her brother Howie MacDonald on the piano. Her singing career began with the Johnny Aucoin Trio and eventually she released her first recording in 1990, My Love, Cape Breton, and Me. Her second CD, Be Still, was released to rave reviews in 2013. She sang backup for Sam Moon and lead with The Thomas Orchestra (St. Thomas University). Marilyn was a musical guest at the Blas Festival in Scotland and has performed with the Cape Breton Summertime Revue, in Howie’s Celtic Brew, at the Cape Breton Music Hall of Fame Gala, and during Celtic Colours International Festival, as well as many dinner theatres in both the local community and at Casino Nova Scotia. She has also taken the stage at Strathspey Performing Arts Centre in Mabou and in a number of shows at the Highland Arts Theatre in Sydney including the popular and critically-acclaimed Tribute to the Rotary Show, as well as Heart of Steel and Kitchen Party.
