Cape Breton
Patrick Lamey
Patrick Lamey of Port Hawkesbury was born into a musical family and has spent a lifetime sharing songs, stories, and good company with family, friends, and audiences throughout Atlantic Canada. A multi-instrumentalist, Patrick plays 6- and 12-string guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo, fiddle, and bagpipes. His performances blend traditional songs with original compositions inspired by family, community, and the landscapes that have shaped his musical path. Along the way, he shares stories and memories that bring each song to life. He has also provided guitar accompaniment and backing vocals on recordings by several Cape Breton artists and has hosted song sessions in Port Hawkesbury and St. George’s Channel during past Celtic Colours festivals. Patrick has especially enjoyed collaborating with singers, songwriters, instrumentalists, storytellers, dancers, and performers from communities throughout Cape Breton. He has been particularly grateful for the friendships and musical experiences shared over the years in historic Acadian communities including L’Ardoise and elsewhere across the island. Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Patrick is proud to call Cape Breton home, and he is a founding board member and long-time supporter of the Celtic Colours International Festival, a founding member of the Highland Guitar Society of Judique, and a founding member and long-time performer with the Port Hawkesbury Ceilidh, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.
