Stephanie MacDonald
Raised in Whycocomagh, Inverness County, Stephanie MacDonald has been playing the fiddle and step dancing since the age of five. She attended classes at Colaisde na Gàidhlig [the Gaelic College] and learned from many accomplished Cape Breton fiddlers. Her musical roots are strengthened by family connections to the Barra MacNeils, fiddlers Carl and Hector MacKenzie, and Gaelic singer and storyteller Maxie MacNeil. Stephanie performs regularly at square dances, concerts, ceilidhs, and community events, and leads workshops in fiddle, step dance, and square dancing. She is a dedicated step dancer who continues in the Cape Breton tradition, and is a long-time member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers’ Association. Stephanie currently serves on the Fiddlers’ Association Board of Directors and performs with the group throughout Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Boston, and Scotland. In addition to her musical work, Stephanie teaches chemistry, math, and music at Dalbrae Academy in Mabou.
