Tia Greenwood

Tia Greenwood is a spirited cellist with infectious energy and passion for traditional music. Known for her fluid and relaxed style and innovative approach to trad cello, Tia has positioned the instrument as a versatile and valuable contributor in any fiddle music setting by combining tune playing with chords and rhythm. She is passionate about furthering the instrument’s role as a lead melodic voice, bringing the fluidity, bowings, ornaments, expression, and authenticity of the fiddle to the cello and is currently working on her debut album. Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, she was drawn to fiddle music from a young age through fiddle camps and playing with Daniel Lapp’s BC Fiddle Orchestra and Ivonne Hernandez’s Coastline Fiddle Ensemble. She cites cellists Eric Wright and Natalie Haas, and fiddler Jenna Moynihan, as specific influences while acknowledging many others whose recordings she has studied. In 2025, Tia was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston where she studied with renowned musicians including Jenna Moynihan, Bruce Molsky, Jeremy Harman, Greg Liszt, Natalie Haas, Jeremy Kittel, Kimberley Fraser, and Brittany Haas. As an emerging voice in the Celtic and traditional music world, Tia uses her music as a medium for spreading joy, kindness, positivity, and bringing people together.
