The Guitar Summit concert is a rare opportunity to hear some of the most skilled and creative guitarists in Celtic and folk music today, each with a distinct voice on the instrument and a shared passion for its possibilities. Celtic Colours has been presenting a concert focused on guitar, in the context of Celtic music, since the first Festival in 1997. Most commonly and popularly known as (the) Guitar Summit, this Thursday night concert has, over the years, explored the ever-evolving role this most ubiquitous of instruments has played. The Guitar Summit has become a staple of the Celtic Colours lineup each year and is one of the most anticipated concerts in a Festival that boasts so many must-see events. Flavourful harmony lines, full-speed-ahead finger and flat-picking, sophisticated chording accompaniment, and sympathetic and syncopated rhythmic structures all have a place in this annual showcase. And the Summit has a knack for attracting just the right players to put on it all on display. This year, the sure-to-be-sold-out concert features three veterans of the show and welcomes one first-timer. Past Artist in Residence, and Guitar Summit mainstay, J.P. Cormier will share the stage with the incomparable Tim Edey, the highly-skilled Kris Drever, and up-and-coming Cape Breton guitarist Malcolm MacNeil who will be making his Guitar Summit debut. We’re in for another barn burner this year so be sure to get your tickets early.
