When great players gather, sparks tend to fly. In Good Company celebrates the spontaneous joy that happens when skilled musicians share tunes, swap ideas, and push each other to new heights. With its strong connection to the coal mining industry, Inverness was effectively a company town in the early 20th century. A hundred years later, it seems like as good a place as any for tonight’s concert. And talk about good company! The artists gathered for tonight’s show share a remarkable level of musicianship, stage presence, and love of making music. Tim Edey and J.P. Cormier lead the charge with a duo performance that is both virtuosic and deeply engaging. Tim’s blend of guitar and accordion playing, shaped by myriad influences from trad to jazz and pop to classical, pairs seamlessly with J.P.’s masterful command of multiple instruments and emotionally-charged songwriting. If you’ve ever seen them play together, you’ll know their sets are just one highlight after another. Known as a lively player who never fails to get people on their feet, Inverness County fiddler Ian MacDougall has become one of the most sought-after dance players on Cape Breton Island. Ian’s in good company with expert accompanists Patrick Gillis on guitar and Jackie Dunn MacIsaac on piano. Award-winning singer, songwriter, guitar and accordion player Mary Beth Carty has assembled a top-notch trio for tonight with multi-instrumentalist and Gaelic singer Bradley Murphy and violinist Donald MacLennan. More tunes and songs in English, French, and Gaelic are in order with this crew.
