La Swing du Suête

Cape Breton

La Swing du Suête is a vibrant youth dance troupe based in Chéticamp, Cape Breton, that celebrates and showcases the rich cultural heritage of the region through traditional and contemporary step dancing. Founded in 1997 for the first annual Cape Breton Dance Festival, the group has become a proud ambassador of the island’s unique blend of Acadian and Celtic traditions. For nearly thirty years, La Swing du Suête has charmed audiences across the Maritime provinces and beyond, with performances in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, Vermont, Louisiana, and even France. Under the passionate and creative artistic direction of Christine Doucet, the troupe continues to captivate with dynamic choreographies, intricate footwork, and undeniable stage presence. Composed of dancers aged 10 to 17—all students at École NDA in Chéticamp—La Swing du Suête is more than a performance group; it is a living expression of cultural pride and community spirit. Through their spirited performances, the dancers reflect the energy, rhythm, and heart of Cape Breton’s Acadian and Celtic roots, carrying forward a treasured tradition with youthful joy and elegance.
