Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd

For a quarter of a century, the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music has been a cornerstone of Scotland’s cultural landscape. Based in the picturesque Highland village of Plockton, this unique institution has nurtured some of the country’s most talented young musicians, preserving and promoting the rich heritage of traditional music while fostering innovation and creativity. The Centre offers top-class tuition and an all-round, in-depth experience in traditional music, encompassing individual tuition, group work, workshops and masterclasses, performance, recording, and the history and background of the music. The Centre’s tutors are all professional working musicians of the highest calibre, and their expertise ensures that every school-leaver has what it takes to succeed in a musical career. Students come from all over Scotland, ensuring the Centre is truly national in character. They cover everything from Gaelic and Scots songs to driving jigs and reels, reflecting the diverse traditions and contemporary interpretations that make Scottish music so extraordinary. Several students are fluent Gaelic speakers, and all are brought into contact with both Gaelic and Scots through an element of singing in the curriculum. A selection of students from Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd will be performing at Celtic Colours this year.
