The Forrester Sisters
The Forrester Sisters—Shannon, Shara, and Shendle —have shared a lifelong journey in dance, one that began as young children under the guidance of their mother, the late Dr. Eileen Pottie Forrester, founder of the Forrester School of Dance in Cape Breton. Raised in a family where music, dance, culture, and community were at the heart of daily life, the sisters grew up performing together throughout Cape Breton before taking their talents to stages across Canada and around the world. Over the years, they have performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, proudly sharing the traditions of Highland and Scottish dance while celebrating their Cape Breton roots. Though life has led them in different directions, their bond through dance remains unwavering. Today, Shara and Shendle reside in Ontario, while Shannon continues to lead the Forrester School of Dance in Cape Breton, carrying forward the legacy their mother established and inspiring future generations of dancers. Their appearance at Celtic Colours holds special meaning as they reunite to take part in a tribute celebrating the life and legacy of their mother, Dr. Eileen Pottie Forrester. More than a performance, it is an opportunity to honour the woman who first taught them to dance, instilled in them a love of tradition and excellence, and dedicated her life to nurturing dancers and preserving Scottish culture in Cape Breton. Together, the sisters celebrate a lifetime of shared memories, family, and the enduring legacy of a remarkable mother, teacher, mentor, and cultural ambassador.
