The Forrester Dancers

For more than 60 years, the Forrester Dancers have been ambassadors of Cape Breton’s rich Scottish dance traditions. Founded in 1965 by the late Dr. Eileen Pottie Forrester, the group features accomplished, award-winning junior and senior dancers from the Forrester School of Dance and is recognized for its dynamic presentations of Highland, Scottish National, and Cape Breton-style step dancing. Under Dr. Forrester’s visionary leadership, generations of dancers were trained in both traditional and contemporary forms of Scottish dance, earning opportunities to perform throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. Through performances, workshops, cultural exchanges, and recordings, the Forrester Dancers have proudly shared Cape Breton’s vibrant dance heritage with audiences around the world. Among the group’s accomplishments and award-winning performances was the production of the recording Music of Nova Scotia, which brought the spirit of Cape Breton music and dance to audiences internationally through worldwide distribution. Today, under the direction of Shannon Forrester, the school continues to build upon the strong foundation established by Dr. Forrester, inspiring new generations of dancers while preserving the traditions she cherished. This Celtic Colours performance is a celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Eileen Pottie Forrester—a beloved teacher, choreographer, mentor, and cultural leader whose influence continues to be felt through the many dancers she inspired and the traditions she worked tirelessly to preserve. Through music and dance, the Forrester Dancers are honoured to pay tribute to her enduring contribution to Cape Breton’s cultural landscape.
