Douglas Cameron is a fiddle and piano player from Terre Noire, Cape Breton Island, located between the communities of Margaree and Cheticamp. He grew up surrounded by both Scottish and Acadian cultures, and has been playing at dances, concerts, and festivals around the island since his early teens. Now 30 years old, Douglas keeps himself busy as an articling surveyor with Natural Resources Canada. He cites the playing styles of John Morris Rankin, Cameron Chisholm, Arthur Muise, Howie MacDonald, Marc Boudreau, and Colin Grant as major influences, among many others. Douglas started off playing Celtic music at the age of five by learning to play a few fiddle tunes on the piano with his father, Lawrence Cameron, patiently accompanying on the same instrument. He began playing the fiddle at the age of nine and credits several other musicians with teaching him to play including Dawn and Margie Beaton, Andrea Beaton, Dougie MacDonald, Kenneth Joseph MacDonald, and Bonnie Jean MacDonald. This will be Douglas’ twelfth time playing at Celtic Colours since 2007.
