Liz Doherty is a fiddle player and educator from Co. Donegal, Ireland. She is the founder and Director of I Teach Trad, providing training and professional certification for traditional musicians who teach (iteachtrad.com). With a PhD on the subject of Cape Breton fiddle music, she published The Cape Breton Fiddle Companion in 2015. Since 1994 she has lectured in Irish traditional music at University College, Cork and at Ulster University, Derry as well as in Canada, the U.S. and Australia. She was recognised for her pioneering work in this area with the prestigious National Teaching Fellowship Award. She has performed and recorded with Ireland’s National Symphony and Concert Orchestras, Riverdance—The Show, the String Sisters, the Bumblebees, Fiddlesticks, and Nomos, and has released two solo recordings – Last Orders and Quare Imagination. As a traditional arts and education consultant, Liz has worked with the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and has served on Culture Ireland’s Expert Advisory Committee. She also works as music producer on TV shows including the annual TG4 Fleadh shows, Cultír, Mayo Day, and the award-winning Samhlú (Fibín). We welcome back this past Artist in Residence who first played at Celtic Colours in 1997 with the Bumblebees.
