Michael Campbell

Michael Campbell was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and grew up in the small community of Ohio, Antigonish County. He began piping at the age of 9 as a student of Pipe Major Ian McKinnon, now of Rawlin’s Cross fame.  Over the years, he has played in several Pipe Bands throughout the Province. In 1989, Michael joined the Canadian Army Reserves as a piper with The Nova Scotia Highlanders. In 1998, he moved to Sydney, and transferred to The Cape Breton Highlanders where he was appointed Pipe Major in 2008, a position he held until 2019.   Throughout his time in the Canadian Army Reserves, Michael has proudly represented Canada on numerous national and international events.  Presently, Michael is a Warrant Officer with the CBH and Senior Instructor of the Pipes and Drums. In 1992, Michael was invited to join The Cape Breton Bicentennial Dancers, under the direction of the late Eileen (Pottie) Forrester to attend an international festival in Scotland.  This led to a partnership that over the years led to many local, national and international events. He is thrilled to be playing in his first Celtic Colours, honouring the legacy of Eileen Forrester.
